Black and White photography is a passion of mine. I consider all images to be beautiful but I much prefer the images of strong Shadow, Contrast, and Light which are devoid of color. Until now, the Leica M 240 and Nikon Z6 have been great photography partners. Both produce fantastic 24MP COLOR images. With the right glass, fantastic becomes astounding. However, those astounding images still have raw files that are in color. So what you say? Point is, many times I find myself in a quandary during the workflow process as to whether the image should be color or black and white. I struggle with the questions, “Am I taking sub par images in color that end up black and white?” or “Am I specifically identifying images to be Monochrome that don’t make the grade and end up being color?” These questions are now eliminated.
With the Leica Q2 Monochrom I have no choice. It has no color sensor. It is my specific tool for strictly Monochrome images. My only options are the fixed 28mm Summilux lens, an aperture of f/1.7 to f/16, a shutter speed of up to 1/2000th of a second, an ISO of 100 to 100,000 and of course, amazing subject matter and composition! I’m looking forward to demonstrating what I can do with this new tool and hearing from you regarding how I am doing with these newly appointed “limitations”…
